Pierre Jalbert's Music of air and fire at the Houston Symphony

Pierre Jalbert’s Music of air and fire is featured in performances this month by the Houston Symphony. The concerts take place on March 10, 12, and 13 under the baton of Andrés Orozco-Estrada at Jones Hall in Houston, TX.

Music of air and fire received its world premiere in 2007 with the California Symphony led by Barry Jekowsky, who commissioned the work. The six-minute piece opens with a lush, introspective passage marked “slow, mysterious”, before propelling into a swift “Con fuoco”, arriving to a thunderous percussion battery interlude that leads the orchestra to an explosive finale. Music of air and fire is characteristic of Jalbert’s colorful orchestration and sense off narrative drama that leads the listener on a sonic journey.
