Picosa Ensemble Celebrates the Music of Joseph Schwantner

This month, flutist Jennie Oh Brown hosts several events in celebration of the recent release of her new album Looking Back: Flute Music of Joseph Schwantner. On November 9, Brown joins pianist Kuang Hao Huang for a live broadcast performance of Looking Back on Chicago’s WFMT Radio. Two album release concerts are also planned this month led by Brown’s Picosa Ensemble who perform several works from the album as well as Schwantner’s Taking Charge for flute, piano and percussion. Performances take place at the Mayslake Peabody Estate in Oak Brook, IL on November 5 and at the Merit School in Chicago on November 14. Brown’s CD includes new recordings of Silver Halo, for four flutes with guests Karin Ursin, Janice MacDonald and Susan Saylor, as well as Black Anemones, Soaring, and Looking Back, with pianist Jeffrey Panko. 

Earlier this month, the Dallas Winds gave a performance of Schwantner’s New Morning for the World: Daybreak of Freedom. The performance took place on November 3 at the Meyerson Symphony Center, led by Jerry Junkin and narrated by Timothy Jones.
