Peteris Vasks' Violin Concerto "Tala gaisma" at the New York City Ballet

Feb. 01, 2006

VasksPeteris Vasks' Violin Concerto "Tala gaisma," which means "Distant Light" in the composer's native Latvian, fills the air of the State Theatre at Lincoln Center in New York, during the New York City Ballet Winter Season. Tala gaisma, as the ballet itself is dubbed, is making a reappearance at the New York City Ballet after its successful premiere in Spring 2005. The New York Times calls Vasks' Violin Concerto "compelling...sometimes shimmering and at other times brooding." Choreographer Peter Martins has spent more than thirty years with the New York City Ballet, both as a principal dancer and as choreographer of more than seventy-five works. He currently serves as the company's Ballet Master in Chief.

Tala gaisma will feature at the New York City Ballet in performances on February 16, 17, 21, and 22.
