Performances of Three Film Scores by Neil Brand in the UK and Germany

Neil Brand’s new score to the 1919 silent film documentary “South” – Sir Ernest Shackleton’s Glorious Epic of the Antarctic” – will be premiered at the BFI IMAX in in London on January 27. The chamber ensemble score will be performed live by Covent Garden Sinfonia conducted by Ben Palmer. It will then be released on DVD the following day and screened at the British Film Institute. Notably, 2022 marks the centenary of Shackleton’s death.

In addition, Neil Brand’s orchestral score to the 1922 Douglas Fairbanks silent classic, Robin Hood, is to receive its German premiere with three performances in Nuremberg on January 21-23. The score was originally commissioned and premiered by BBC Symphony Orchestra in 2016.

Finally, the premiere of the new version of Neil Brand’s silent film score, Oliver Twist takes place in Brighton, UK in March. The original 10-player version, which is also available, has been rescored for 12 players (an addition of two percussionists). The score accompanies the 1922 silent film starring Jackie Coogan and Lon Chaney.
