New Works by Philipp Maintz for Soloists, Orchestras, and Ensemble

Oct. 01, 2020

Philipp Maintz’s organ concerto“de figuris”, based on Albrecht Dürer’s "Apocalypse", was premiered last month at the Palais des Beaux Arts in Brussels by organist László Fassang and the Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège, conducted by Gergely Madaras.  This month sees several performances of other works by Philipp Maintz including herrgott – kommentar zu einem wienerlied für brandneue domorgel("Lord God – commentary on a Viennese song for the brand new Cathedral organ"), composed for the consecration of the organ at St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna on October 4. The work will be performed by organist Konstantin Reymaier in honor of the occasion. On October 9, the first performance of the revised version of Philipp Maintz’s Piano Concerto was given by pianist Joonas Ahonen and the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Marin Alsop. Finally, on October 25, members of the Gürzenich-Orchester premiere Philipp Maintz's Clamationes Colonienses for 11 brass instruments. Additional performances of the work follow on October 26-27.
