New Version of Valgeir Sigurðsson's Dissonance Premiered at Juilliard
Dec. 01, 2019
Valgeir Sigurðsson has created a new version of his piece Dissonance for Stephen Petronio, who choreographed it for a run of six performances at The Juilliard School's Peter Jay Sharp Theater December 11-15. Originally scored for viola da gamba and electronics and lasting twenty-three minutes, the work was conceived as an “explosion” of a single moment from Mozart's 'Dissonance' Quartet, K.465. It has now been recast in a shorter fifteen-minute version for viola da gamba, strings and electronics. Liam Byrne is the viola da gamba soloist for these performances, which are part of The Juilliard School's series "New Dances: Edition 2019".
