Premiere Recording of Marc Blitzstein's Piano Music is Released by Toccata Classics
Nov. 01, 2020
Toccata Classics has released an impressive new disc featuring the piano music of Marc Blitzstein, performed by pianist Leonard Lehrman. This album, titled "Marc Blitzstein: Music for Solo Piano, 1918-63", is the first ever to be devoted entirely to Marc Blitzstein's piano output and offers a conspectus of 45 years of Blitzstein’s music, including Leonard Lehrman's own transcription of the ballet The Guests for solo piano. Better known for his powerful stage works, including Regina, The Cradle Will Rock and Triple-Sec, this new release shows a different side of Marc Blitzstein's compositional output, from lyrical juvenilia via spiky protest pieces and jazzy dance numbers to intimate ‘family’ pieces for close friends.
