Music of Nigel Hess, Benjamin Britten, Carl Davis and Colin Matthews from Coast to Coast

Several beloved works from the Faber Music catalogue can be heard in performances throughout the country this month. In particular, Nigel Hess’s A Christmas Overture ushers in the holiday season with ensembles from coast to coast, along with works by Benjamin Britten, Carl Davis and Colin Matthews.

Nigel Hess’s A Christmas Overture, which was commissioned by John Rutter for the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, juxtaposes traditional carols into a colorful and vivacious concert opener. Performances of A Christmas Overture take place this month with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra (Dec 4, 5, 6), Symphony of Southeast Texas (Dec 6), Sacramento Orchestra (Dec 12), Greater Dallas Youth Symphony (Dec 14), Ensign Symphony in Seattle, WA (Dec 14, 15), La Canada Presbyterian Church in California (Dec 20) and St. Charles Avenue Presbyterian Church in New Orleans (Dec 20).

Also taking place this month are performances of Benjamin Britten’s cantata The Company of Heaven with the Cantate Chamber Singers in Maryland on December 5 and The Sword in the Stone: Concert Suite at Hope College on December 8, as well as a performance of Carl Davis’s The Most Wonderful Birthday of All and Colin Matthews’s La Virgen Lava Panales at Pacific Lutheran Univeristy on December 2.
