Songs of Freedom: A Celebration of Chanukah Performed in the US and Canada

The acclaimed Songs of Freedom: A Celebration of Chanukah, a medley of traditional Chanukah songs arranged by Judith Clurman, Larry Hochman and Brian Stokes Mitchell for baritone, SATB chorus and orchestra will be presented throughout December. The Boston Pops Orchestra and the Tanglewood Festival Chorus perform the work from December 7-24 under the baton of Keith Lockhart. The Houston Symphony, Houston Symphony Chorus, and vocalist Ali Ewoldt, led by Steven Reineke, perform the work on their "Very Merry Pops" concerts on December 7-9. The Toronto Symphony Orchestra performs excerpts from Songs of Freedom: A Celebration of Chanukah on December 11, 12, 13, and 15 with Steven Reineke conducting on December 11-12 and Lucas Waldin conducting on December 13 and 15. Finally, The New York Pops, led by Steven Reineke and featuring Clurman’s own Essential Voices USA and vocalist Ashley Brown, performs the work at Carnegie Hall on December 21-22 as part of a holiday concert titled "Under the Mistletoe."

Exquisite and accessible, Songs of Freedom unifies some of the best-loved Chanukah melodies into a masterwork for chorus, soloists, and orchestra that has quickly become a perennial hit with audiences and performing ensembles alike. The work is featured on Essential Voices USA’s 2014 recording for Sono LuminusCherished Moments: Songs of the Jewish Spirit.
