Matthias Pintscher's towards Osiris in West Coast Premiere with Los Angeles Philharmonic

Gustavo Dudamel leads the Los Angeles Philharmonic in the West Coast premiere of Matthias Pintscher's towards Osiris on October 13. Subsequent performances take place October 14-16 at Walt Disney Concert Hall.

Following the work's New York premiere in 2011, Anthony Tommasini wrote of towards Osiris in The New York Times:

In this urgent, pungently atonal music [Pintscher] explores dimensions of disintegration and reintegration. Over stretches of sustained harmonic backdrops musical fragments come and go: squirreling figures, aborted melodic flights, hazy bursts of brass with indeterminate pitch. Sometimes a slicing fortissimo chord explodes, and in its wake you hear hushed, ominous, scurrying riffs. Are these remnants of disintegrating music? Or germinal building blocks? The ambiguity pulls you in.

From October 21 to 29, Pintscher leads the Ensemble Intercontemporain, with whom he is Music Director, in five performances throughout the ensemble's Asian tour. Programs include works by Pierre Boulez (Mémoriale (...explosante-fixe... Originel) and Dérive 1), György Ligeti (Chamber Concerto) and others, as well as Pintscher's Whirling tissue of light for solo piano and Mar'eh for violin and orchestra.
