Matthias Pintscher Conducts the World Premiere of Assonanza Performed by Leila Josefowicz and the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra
Jan. 15, 2022
On January 28-29, violinist Leila Josefowicz and the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, led by Matthias Pintscher, give the world premiere performances of Matthias Pintscher's Assonanza. During the early months of the pandemic in 2020, Matthias Pintscher composed several highly expressive works. Assonanza, a concerto for solo violin and chamber orchestra, originated from a composition for Leila Josefowicz, a seemingly unending melody in a sweeping dramatic gesture which narrates a great sense of tension and inner turmoil.
Assonanza will be performed again on April 6 in Winterthur, featuring Leila Josefowicz and the Musikkollegium Winterthur, conducted by the composer.
Finally, on February 3, Staatskapelle Dresden performs the German premiere of Matthias Pintscher's orchestral work, neharot. This performance is part of Matthias Pintscher's prestigious appointment as "Capell-Compositeur 2021/22" of the Staatskapelle Dresden. The Swiss premiere follows in Geneva on February 9 with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, conducted by Pintscher. Neharot was premiered last summer by the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, under the composer's baton. Matthias Pintscher notes: “Neharot means rivers in Hebrew, but also tears. It also describes lamentation. This music was written during the worst period of the many daily deaths in the spring of 2020...and is a clear echo of the desolation and fear, but also the hope for light that so emotionally characterized this time in our lives.”
