Luke Bedford Wins His Second British Composer Award

Universal Edition is very proud to announce that Luke Bedford has won the 2008 British Composer Award in the orchestral category, for his BBC commission Wreathe. Seeing off tough competition, Bedford has now won on both occasions that he has been nominated; his first award, in 2004, was for the 2003 work Rode with Darkness.

Drawn to the "slightly archaic, decaying quality" of the title, but also because it describes the way "in which the ideas of [his] piece entwine each other", Bedford's compositional clarity clearly shone through:

"A work that has great singularity of purpose, it communicates a strong and uncompromising emotional pull and is striking for its unusual development of idea."
