Ľubica Čekovská's Toy Procession Premiered by the Houston Symphony led by Juraj Valčuha

With her new orchestral piece Toy Procession, Ľubica Čekovská recalls the awareness of our childhood. The first performance takes place in Houston this weekend, November 28-30.

Underlying the playfulness evoked by the title lies a profound philosophical approach. The composer was concerned with the process of remembering, of reviving childhood imagination – that carefree simplicity we often leave behind as we grow up.

Čekovská notes: “In this music I am not searching for nostalgia, but rather for recognition. Through sound, I attempt to find access to this original glance, to that gentle clarity of being.” The piece was written as a through-composed arch, in which forms develop, textures collide, tonal colors dissolve and rhythm becomes the structural principle."

The “ten-minute stream of orchestral life” will be premiered by the Houston Symphony, conducted by Juraj Valčuha.
