Leila Josefowicz Performs Thomas Adès' Concentric Paths with the St. Louis Symphony

Nov. 01, 2010

November 12 and 13 mark Leila Josefowicz’s return to the St. Louis Symphony to perform Thomas Adès’ acclaimed violin concerto Concentric Paths. Premiered in September of 2005 at the Berliner Festspiele with violinist Anthony Marwood and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, under Adès’ directorship, the piece has since been performed in various cities throughout the United States, Europe and Australia. Last season the work served as the musical component for the New York City Ballet premiere of a dance piece by critically acclaimed British choreographer Wayne McGregor. Adès comments on the concerto:

This concerto has three movements, like most, but it is really more of a triptych, as the middle one is the largest. It is the "slow" movement, built from two large, and very many small, independent cycles, which overlap and clash, sometimes violently, in their motion towards resolution.

The St. Louis Symphony will bring Concentric Paths to Carnegie Hall with Josefowicz in March, 2011 for its official New York City premiere.
