Krzyzstof Penderecki at 85 and Two World Premieres

All of us at Schott Music are delighed to mark the 85th birthday of Krzysztof Penderecki on November 23. Congratulations, Maestro! Penderecki's prolific compositional output, which has been published by Schott for more than 50 years, consists of works that range from experimental in character to those that are more tonally-oriented and sometimes labelled "neo-Romantic." Penderecki's 85th birthday will be celebrated in over seventy performances throughout the month of November. In particular, the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester, led by Krzysztof Urbański, performs Polymorphia in Hamburg on November 22-23. In this iconic piece, Penderecki experimented with innovative string timbres and techniques.

Additionally, world premieres of two new works by Krzysztof Penderecki take place this month. The first, Fanfare for the Independent Poland, written for seven brass instruments, timpani, and percussion is performed on November 11 by the Chicago Philharmonic, led by Scott Speck, the London Sinfonietta, led by David Atherton, and by various orchestras throughout Poland. See a list of performances here. The world premiere of Concerto doppio will be performed on November 19 at the Krzysztof Penderecki Festival by the Filharmonia Narodowa, led by Tadeusz Strugała, and featuring soloists Patrick Gallois, flute, and Michel Lethiec, clarinet.
