Krzysztof Wołek's Green Grass Premiered at the 36th Krakow International Festival of Composers

Apr. 11, 2024

On April 28Krzysztof Wołek's Green Grass for harpsichord and electronics receives its premiere at the 36th Krakow International Festival of Composers from Goska Isphording. Green Grass was inspired by the English saying, "The grass is greener on the other side of the fence," which means that people tend to perceive others' situations as more desirable than their own. Krzysztof Wołek, a composer who lived in Poland, Netherlands and the United States had an opportunity to observe the multifaceted political and social transformation in these countries. Thus, in a somewhat abstract way, Green Grass refers to the fact that although life may seem better where we are not, there are also very real social and political problems in these idealized places and there is a need for commitment and struggle for social values and a better future. The composer used recordings of three different harpsichords to accompany the soloist in electronic form during the performance. Green Grass was written for harpsichordist Goska Isphording, who lives in the Netherlands.
