Krzysztof Penderecki Composer-in- Residence at Saratoga Chamber Music Festival

Krzysztof Penderecki serves as Composer-in-Residence of the 2007 Saratoga Chamber Music Festival in Saratoga, NY. Running from July 31 to August 19, the festival features works from Beethoven and Brahms to Rachmaninov, Stravinsky and Penderecki. On August 14, Penderecki’s Quartet for clarinet and string trio is performed in the festivals “An Evening Amongst Friends” program. His Sextet for clarinet, horn, string trio and piano, is slated for a concert entitled “Russian Romance and Polish Passion” which features pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet on August 19.

While the Saratoga Chamber Music Festival takes place, the Philadelphia Orchestra will also perform Penderecki’s music in Saratoga, as the composer conducts his own Symphony No. 2 (“Christmas Symphony”) on August 17 at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center.

Other performances of particular note in Saratoga this August include the Philadelphia Orchestra’s August 10 Astor Piazzolla concert, August 4 performance of Stravinsky’s Symphony in Three Movements and August 18 performance of Stravinsky’s Circus Polka.
