Korngold’s Die Tote Stadt and Violin Concerto On New Releases
Nov. 02, 2011

The German label Oehms Classics has recently released a new recording of Erich Wolfgang Korngold's Die Tote Stadt from a recent production by the Frankfurt Opera. The new recording features world-renowned soloists Klaus Florian Vogt, Tatiana Pavlovskaya, Michael Nagy, Hedwig Fassbender, Anna Ryberg, Jenny Carlstedt, Julian Prégardien, and Hans-Jürgen Lazar with Sebastian Weigle leading the Frankfurt Opera and Museumorchester and the Chorus and Childrens’ Chorus of Frankfurt Opera. An intense psychological study of a man's obsession with his dead wife, Die Tote Stadt is a harrowing mix of hallucinatory fantasy and painful reality that has been compared to Hitchcock's Vertigo. This emotionally gripping, visually arresting trip into the dark side of a troubled psyche features a voluptuous, colorful score reminiscent of both Puccini and Richard Strauss. Oehms Classics has produced the recording in conjunction with Frankfurt Opera’s Live-CD Series. Purchase your copy at www.amazon.com.
On November 15, Korngold's Violin Concerto sees its newest commercial release on the French label Naïve. The new recording features violinist Laurent Korcia with Jean-Jacques Kantorow conducting the Liège Royal Philharmonic and individual movements from the concerto are available now for download from amazon.
