Premiere of Alban Berg's 4 Pieces, op. 5 in New Version for Clarinet and Chamber Orchestra

On December 9, the world premiere of Alban Berg’s 4 Pieces, op. 5 in a new arrangement for clarinet and chamber orchestra by Klaus Simon takes place at the Konzerthaus Berlin. Simon leads the Zafraan Ensemble with Miguel Pérez Iñesta as clarinet soloist. Originally composed for clarinet and piano, Berg's 4 Pieces was first heard at a concert presented by Vienna's Society for Private Musical Performances in 1919.

Celebrated for his orchestrations and reductions, Klaus Simon has recently garnered critical acclaim for his chamber orchestra reduction of Mahler’s Symphony No. 9, as well as a new version of Schönberg’s 6 Orchestral Songs, op. 8.

The concert in Berlin also includes the German premiere of Richard Dünser’s arrangement of Schönberg’s 3 Pieces, op. 11, for chamber ensemble. Originally composed for solo piano in 1909, Dünser’s arrangement was commissioned by the Arnold Schönberg Center and premiered by Ensemble Kontrapunkte in 2009.
