Kamran Ince’s The Crossing in World Premiere with The Crossing Choir on June 18
Jun. 01, 2011
Kamran Ince’s The Crossing premieres with The Crossing choir under the direction of Donald Nally in Philadelphia on June 18. Located at The Presbyterian Church of Chestnut Hill, the performance is the second in a set of three concerts for the choir’s Month of Moderns-Seneca Sounds concert series. Established in 2009, each performance of the annual Month of Moderns series includes the premiere of a new work commissioned specifically for the festival. Each year the festival selects a different author from whom the composers set texts, and this year the chosen author is ancient Roman dramatist, Lucius Annaeus Seneca. Ince’s The Crossing draws its text from the tragedy Thyestes, which is based on an ancient Greek mythological story about a man seeking revenge upon his brother for having stolen both his kingdom and wife. The choir will sing an English text translated by Caryl Churchill.
