Kamran Ince Performs his Concerto for Piano and Orchestra with the Dupage Symphony Orchestra
Oct. 04, 2007
Kamran Ince joins the Dupage Symphony Orchestra as solo pianist in a performance of his Concerto for Piano and Orchestra on Saturday, October 13. The piano concerto heralded the arrival of composer Ince on the contemporary music scene in 1984. Its premiere proved to be the launching point of his career. Written in the years following Ince's move from Turkey to the U.S. in 1980, the contrasts between the two cultures were of extreme potency to the composer. In writing the work, Ince drew inspiration from neo-romantic and dramatic minimalist styles, while incorporating twisted Turkish modal lines, tonal sonorities, minimalist backgrounds, and purely percussive sections. The result is an energetic work of extreme contrasts; Ince himself admits the concerto is the best example of the wildness and electricity of the degree of contrasts he embraced in those years.
The Dupage Symphony Orchestra's performance of Ince's Concerto for Piano and Orchestra will take place on Saturday, October 13 in Naperville, Illinois at Pfeiffer Hall.
