Juilliard Presents Alvin Singleton's Argoru Series with Choreography at the Chelsea Factory

On February 3, Juilliard presented Alvin Singleton's Argoru series at the Chelsea Factory in NYC as part of the Juilliard x Chelsea Factory series. The performance, which paired the works with thrilling choreography, was conceived by choreographer/director Caili Quan and performed by Juilliard student musicians and dancers. In addition to Quan, other choreographers included Juilliard students Waverly Fredericks (BFA ’23), John Heginbotham (BFA ’93), Keerati Jinakunwiphat, and Rachel Lockhart (BFA ’23).

The title "Argoru" comes from the Ghanaian Twi language meaning "to play." Singleton composed this kaleidoscopic series of solo works for eight different instruments over a period of more than thirty years.
