Joseph Schwantner’s Chasing Light… and Morning’s Embrace in Performance at Nashville Symphony
Jun. 09, 2010
Joseph Schwantner's tenure as composer for the Ford Made in America Commissioning Consortium continued with a performance of his work Chasing Light… at the Nashville Symphony under the direction of Giancarlo Guerrero on June 4 and 5. The orchestra also performed Schwantner’s Morning's Embrace. Following the performances, the orchestra switched gears for recording sessions of Schwantner's Chasing Light…Morning's Embrace, and the Percussion Concerto for an all-Schwantner CD to be released on Naxos.
Chasing Light… continues its tour of more than 50 orchestras across the US, with Schwantner often accompanying the tour to take part in composer residencies including recent visits to the Nashua Symphony Orchestra, Huntsville Symphony Orchestra, Vanderbilt, University of Memphis, Central Ohio Symphony Orchestra and the Omaha Symphony Orchestra. The residencies cover a wide range of musical and educational activities and events that include open rehearsals and performances of Chasing Light..., lectures and classes by the composer with local elementary, high school and university students in a variety of forums, and additional lectures and discussions with musicians and audience members alike.
