The University of Texas at Austin’s Butler School of Music hosts Joseph Schwantner as composer-in-residence this month and celebrates the composer’s work with a portrait concert by the University’s Wind Ensemble. The program, led by Jerry Junkin, takes place on May 1 and includes Schwantner’s recent Luminosity, as well as his Concerto for Percussion and Orchestra and New Morning for the World, both in arrangements for wind ensemble. 

Centaur Records will release a new album of Schwantner’s chamber works for flute featuring flutist Sarah Frisof later this spring. The album, titled “Looking Back”, includes new recordings of three works for flute and piano—Soaring, Black Anemones, and Looking Back—as well as Taking Charge, for flute, piano and percussion.
