Joaquín Rodrigo's Cuatro Madrigales Amatorios Performed in Finland
Nov. 22, 2022
Soprano Johanna Rusanen, and the Saimaa Sinfonietta in collaboration with St. Michel Strings, led by Taavi Oramo, performed Joaquín Rodrigo's stunning song cycle, Cuatro Madrigales Amatorios in Finland at Lappeenranta Hall on November 17 and Martti Talvela Hall on November 18.
Inspired by 16th-century Spanish songs, the Cuatro Madrigales Amatorios are among Rodrigo's best-loved vocal works. Each song was dedicated to a different soprano and the entire cycle displays a tremendous diversity of styles and moods, from the introspective "¿Con qué la lavaré? to the ebullient "De los álamos vengo, madre". Cuatro Madrigales Amatorios was initially composed for voice and piano and orchestrated the following year.
