Joaquín Rodrigo Posthumously Awarded the Insignes de la Música Valenciana

On December 10 at the Conservatorio Profesional de Música de Valencia, the Academia de la Música Valenciana will award the Insignes de la Música Valenciana posthumously to Joaquín Rodrigo. As part of that great distinction, Rodrigo's daughter, Cecilia Rodrigo will give a pre-ceremony lecture at the Conservatorio Superior de Música Joaquín Rodrigo in Valencia, titled “Joaquín Rodrigo: Un insigne compositor valenciano” (Joaquín Rodrigo: An Illustrious Valencian Composer). 

Rodrigo's birthday month (he was born on November 22, 1901) was marked by various performances of the great composer's music from works for children and families to chamber works and concertos.

On November 8-9, Creacion Independiente presented, “Sueños musicales de un genio, Joaquín Rodrigo” ("The Musical Dreams of a Genius, Joaquín Rodrigo") at the Auditorio Joaquín Rodrigo in Las Rozas, Madrid. This production "...combines live music, dance, narration and projections for a multi-sensorial experience that takes the audience on a magical journey through an iconographic musical selection of this genius."

On November 22, the Centro Cultural Eduardo Úrculo in Madrid presented El niño que soñó la música ("The Boy Who Dreamed of Music") performed by puppeteers, Títeres Sol y Tierra, the Orquesta de Cámara Filarmonía, Coro Joven Filarmonía, and narrator, Herbert Lampka, conducted by Rafael Albiñana. The same day, students and professors from the Conservatorio Profesional de Música Teresa Berganza presented a tribute concert, performing various instrumental works by Rodrigo, including the Concierto de Aranjuez at the Auditorio Joaquín Rodrigo in Las Rozas, Madrid.

On November 23 in the Auditorio Manuel de Falla at the Real Conservatorio Superior de Música de Madrid, Ana Benavides and Ana Vega Toscano presented a concert of four-hand piano works by Joaquín Rodrigo, preceeded by a presentation by Cecilia Rodrigo.

Finally, on December 3, the Orquesta de Valencia, conducted by Juan Luis Martínez, presented a concert in celebration of Joaquín Rodrigo at the Palau de la Música en Valencia. The program included a variety of  the Adagio para instrumentos de vientoConcierto de Aranjuezperformed by harpist Xavier de Maistre, Cuatro madrigales amatoriospeformed by mezzosoprano Nancy Fabiola Herrera, and Per la flor del lliri blau.
