James Adler's Memento Mori: An AIDS Requiem a Success in West Coast Premiere
Jun. 01, 2006
James Adler's Memento mori: An AIDS Requiem received its West Coast premiere on April 30 and May 2 at the Mission Dolores Basilica in San Francisco. Grammy Award-winning conductor Joseph Jennings led the Golden Gate Men's Chorus and Orchestra in the fourth performance of this 75-minute requiem, dedicated to those who have succumbed to AIDS.
San Francisco Classical Voice reported: "The a cappella setting of the Lacrymosa was particularly beautiful, making masterful use of the rich and lush yet melancholy sound of the male choir."
Following the West Coast premiere of Memento mori, the Albany Records recording (Troy 463) of the work was the #1 uniquely selling CD in San Francisco on Amazon.com.
