Happy 70th Birthday, Aribert Reimann!
Mar. 01, 2006
European American Music joins in sending best wishes to composer Aribert Reimann on his 70th birthday. For forty-five years, Schott has been the exclusive publisher of the Berlin composer’s music. A composer of many outstanding orchestral and chamber music works, Reimann's acumen for writing for the human voice has been his specialty. His skill for accompaniment has brought him the friendship and support of such great singers as Elisabeth Grümmer, Catherine Gayer, Barry McDaniel, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau and Brigitte Fassbaender, with whom he frequently gave concerts and for whom he has written a great proportion of his works. In 1983 he was appointed Professor of Contemporary Song at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin.
Reimann’s operas have taken a firm place on the international stage—Lear alone has received more than twenty productions since its world première in 1978, including a successful run at the San Francisco Opera and a recording by Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau with the Bavarian State Orchestra and Chorus. His latest work, premiered with great success in Cologne in mid-January with soloist Jörg Widmann, is Cantus, a concerto for clarinet and orchestra.
EAM and Schott salute Aribert Reimann for his wonderful music and his life-long commitment as teacher and mentor of a new generation of interpreters and composers.
