Gail Zappa (1945-2015)

It is with great sadness that Schott Music notes the passing of Gail Zappa, wife of Frank Zappa and executrix of the Zappa Family Trust. Following Frank Zappa’s death in 1993, Gail oversaw the release of 38 albums of previously unreleased material and remained a tireless advocate for his works and for the rights of artists everywhere. She was 70.

Several performances of works by Frank Zappa are scheduled this month. On November 13, Jukka Iisakkila conducts Finland’s Tapiola Sinfonietta in a full program of works by Zappa, including G-Spot Tornado, Peaches En Regalia, The Dog Breath Variations / Uncle Meat, Dangerous Kitchen, Dupree’s Paradise, Aerobics in Bondage, Be-Bop Tango, Naval Aviation in Art?, The Perfect Stranger and his Wind Quintet. The Britten Sinfonia, Britain’s premier chamber orchestra, gives a performance of The Perfect Stranger on November 18 as part of the London Jazz Festival and on November 6 the Spokane Symphony performs G-Spot Tornado.
