Franz Lehár’s The Merry Widow at Los Angeles Opera

Apr. 05, 2007

Starring Susan Graham as Anna Glawri and Rod Gilfry as Prince Danilo, Los Angeles Opera opens its nine-performance run of Franz Lehár’s classic “champagne operetta” The Merry Widow April 28. The story revolves around Anna Glawri, widow of the wealthiest man in the mythical European kingdom of Pontevedro, who now finds her love interest in a charming playboy who is allergic to marriage and addicted to can-can girls. As sparks fly, the stage is set for a battle of the sexes played out in a glittering turn of the century Paris.

Conducted by Sebastian Lang-Lessing and directed by Lofti Mansouri, The Merry Widow can be seen at LA Opera from April 28 through May 26.
