First Recording of Kurt Weill's <em>The Road of Promise</em> Released on Navona Records

The premiere recording of Kurt Weill’s The Road of Promise is released this month on Navona Records. The album brings together the MasterVoices choral ensemble (formerly Collegiate Chorale), the Orchestra of St. Luke’s and a distinguished cast of soloists led by tenor Anthony Dean Griffey, Mark Delavan, Ron Rifkin, Philip Cutlip, and past winners of the Lotte Lenya Competition, Lauren Michelle, Justin Hopkins, and Megan Marino, conducted by Ted Sperling. Recorded live during the US premiere at Carnegie Hall in May 2015, the album marks the first complete recording of the concert adaptation of Weill and Franz Werfel’s The Eternal Road. The 2-CD set is available on November 18 from Navona Records, an imprint of Parma Recordings.

For Weill on stage and in the concert hall this month, the BBC Philharmonic performs the Violin Concerto on November 5 with John Storgårds as soloist and conductor, in Manchester, UK. Further south in London, Storm Large and the BBC Symphony Orchestra perform The Seven Deadly Sins, conducted by James Gaffigan, on November 23. Over on the continent, Graham Vick’s production of Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny arrives at the Royal Danish Theatre in Copenhagen on November 20 and runs through March 5. Also this month, the Ensemble Metropolis performs Mahagonny Songspiel at Martinů Festtage in Basel (November 12) and the Anhaltisches Theatre in Dessau, Germany continues its run of Zaubernacht (November1 & 2, December 11 & 18).
