Opera Atelier's La Clemenza di Tito in the Bärenreiter Critical Edition, Hailed by the Critics
May. 04, 2011
La Clemenza di Tito, performed in the Bärenreiter Critical Edition, has just completed a six night run at Opera Atelier in Toronto, April 22 through May 1. Performed by the Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra under David Fallis and directed by Marshall Pynkoski this production of the late Mozart masterpiece has already garnered praise from critics:
Opera Atelier’s new production of Mozart’s opera, La Clemenza di Tito, at the Elgin Theatre on Friday night was a magnificent spectacle...
The singers, the orchestra, the dancers, the design and the staging all worked together to create an emotionally powerful, musically exquisite, visually satisfying night of theatre… thanks to Mozart’s rich score and the phenomenal singers in this production, every character’s utterance becomes something not to be missed.
… Toronto conductor David Fallis guided the Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra to a golden reading of the score, particularly notable for its masterful pacing. It’s a rare treat that Toronto opera lovers shouldn’t miss.
- John Terauds, The Toronto Star… the first staged production in North America of Mozart’s La Clemenza di Tito on period instruments… this is likely the most engaging production of Mozart's final opera you will ever see. Conductor David Fallis leads the Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra in a vivid account of the score that naturally balances precision and expression.
