Danny Elfman Honored by the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra and a New Commission Announced

On February 4, acclaimed composer Danny Elfman was honored for his prolific oeuvre of film and classical works by the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra at their annual gala which was held at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel ballroom and featured performances by the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, violinist and guest leader, Joshua Bell, and soprano Larisa Martinez. Arrangements of three of Elfman’s concert pieces, including select movements from his Piano Quartet and Concerto for Violin and Orchestra – "Eleven Eleven" were played.

In addition, it was announced that Elfman is composing a new 19-minute work in four movements, Suite for Chamber Orchestra, a co-commission by the Library of Congress through the generous support of the Andre Kostelanetz Royalty Pool, the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland and the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra. The Orpheus Chamber Orchestra will premiere the work in Washington DC on May 4 with performances by the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra and the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland to follow.
