Daniel Schlosberg Premieres Lei Liang's Touching With Sound at Bargemusic in New York
Jul. 22, 2024
Daniel Schlosberg will perform the world premiere of Lei Liang's Touching With Sound on the "Eclectic Series" at Bargemusic in New York on August 9. Touching With Sound emerges from the composer's rigorous and longstanding efforts to explore and understand the depths of our world, including remote regions of the earth previously hidden from human view, among them the deepest depths of the sea. Touching with Sound is a new composition for solo piano inspired by hauntingly evocative sonar signal recordings. In place of a single premiere, Lei Liang welcomes pianists around the world to perform Touching with Sound throughout the coming season, experiencing the power of responding to a previously imperceptible part of the natural world through music.
Touching with Sound was commissioned by the ProtoStar Group with the express intention that the new work would be premiered by a consortium of pianists around the world during the 2024-25 season. Its duration ranges from 6.5-10.5 minutes, as determined by the performer.
Additional performances of Touching With Sound include the Berlin and Boston premieres of the work. Click here to see a full list of upcoming performances.
