Canadian Premieres of Music by Toshio Hosokawa

From January 17-25, the University of Toronto presents numerous works by Toshio Hosokawa as part of their New Music Festival featuring Hosokawa as the Roger D. Moore Distinguished Visitor in Composition. On January 17, the Canadian premieres of Hosokawa's The Raven and Futari Shizuka will be presented in an exciting operatic double-bill. Then, on January 20, the Esprit Orchestra, led by Alex Pauk and featuring saxophonist Wallace Halladay, performs the North American premeire of Toshio Hosokawa's Concerto for Saxophone and Orchestra. In addition to composition masterclasses led by Toshio Hosokawa on January 21 and January 22, faculty members of the University of Toronto perform Hosokawa's Ancient Voices –– In memory of Wolfgang Schulz, Etude I - VI, Renka I, and Vertical Song in concert on January 21. Finally, on January 25, New Music Concerts, led by Robert Aitken in conjunction with the University of Toronto, presents "Toshio Hosokawa: A Portrait", performing Im Frülingsgarten, "Für Walter" Arc Song II, and Hika.
