Bohuslav Martinů's The Greek Passion Performed at the Salzburg Festival

Aug. 02, 2023

Bohuslav Martinů's The Greek Passion is in repertory at the Salzburg Festival from August 13-27, led by conductor Maxime Pascal and director Simon Stone. The composer also authored the libretto, adapted from Roman Christus wird wieder gekreuzigt (Griechische Passion) by Nikos Kazantzakis. The opera highlights deeply human challenges, conflicts, and tragedies that arise when a group of refugees arrive at a Greek village whose inhabitants are in the midst of preparing for a Passion Play as they approach the Easter season.
