Beat Furrer Conducts the First Performance of his Complete Enigma Cycle in Austria
Oct. 01, 2026
Beat Furrer's complete Enigma Cycle will be performed for the first time in Austria on October 10 at the Helmut List Hall in Graz in a concert celebrating the 10th anniversary of the renowned vocal ensemble Cantando Admont.
Leonardo da Vinci’s “Profezie” – enigmatic miniatures from the Milanese court in the 1480s – read today like visions of our present: “People will walk and not move. They will speak with one who is not there.” From these texts, Beat Furrer formed his “Enigma” cycle. The composer himself will conduct the performance in Graz with Cantando Admont, pro Modern, and three choirs from Linz and Graz. Over 250 voices - comprised of professionals, young people and amateurs - join together to give voice to this music and its enigmas. The program also includes Furrer's impressive a cappella work Herbst for double choir.
