New Complete Edition of Rossini's <em>Le comte Ory</em> Debuts at Seattle Opera

Bärenreiter’s acclaimed critical performing editions can be found at the center of several major productions this festival season.

Seattle Opera’s season opens on August 6 with the first US performances using Bärenreiter’s new critical edition of Gioachino Rossini’s Le comte Ory. Lindy Hume directs, with Giacomo Sagripanti conducting and production design by Dan Potra. The production runs through August 20.

Bärenreiter’s new edition of Le comte Ory, edited by Damien Colas, is published in collaboration with the Center for Italian Opera Studies at The University of Chicago and comprises the fifth and most recent addition to the critical edition series Works of Gioachino Rossini. The edition is both rigorously faithful to authentic sources, primarily Rossini’s autograph manuscript, and thoughtfully crafted for performance.

Also this season, the Complete Neue Mozart-Ausgabe is on stage for two productions of Mozart operas at the Santa Fe Opera and the Carmel Bach Festival. Based on Mozart’s autograph manuscripts as well as all available source material, the Complete Neue Mozart-Ausgabe is universally regarded as an indispensible resource for authentic performance and study of Mozart’s works. Santa Fe Opera opened its production of Mozart’s Don Giovanni on July 2, led by John Nelson and directed by Ron Daniels, and on July 19 the Carmel Bach Festival gives a performance of Idomeneo.
