Ballet Nacional de España Soloists Premiere New Choreography to Joaquín Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez

Jun. 23, 2023

On June 2, soloists from the Ballet Nacional de España premiered a newly choreographed dance by Rubén Olmo and Miguel Ángel Corbacho, set to Joaquín Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez as at the Festival de Úbeda. For the performance, which took place at the Auditorio Hospital de Santiago, the dancers were joined by the Orquesta Ciudad de Granada, conducted by Manuel Coves, with Rafael Aguirre as guitar soloist. The dance was performed alongside works for ballet by Fernando Sor and Manuel de Falla. Watch a festival preview video here.

Rubén Olmo y Miguel Ángel Corbacho's new work will be performed once again on July 30 at the Festival de Musica in Segovia, with the Orquesta de la Comunidad de Madrid (ORCAM), conducted once again by Manuel Coves, featuring María Esther Guzmán as guitar soloist.

Rodrigo's music has proven popular with choreographers this spring. On May 12-14, Atlanta Ballet presented the world premiere performances of Claudia Schreier's Carnivale, set to Joaquín Rodrigo's delightful and energetic Concierto in Modo Galante, described by the choreographer as "a jubilant, joyful work" as part of a program titled "Significant Others."
