Bärenreiter's Halle Händel Edition and Neue Mozart-Ausgabe in Productions Across the USA

Bärenreiter’s acclaimed critical performing editions are at the center of several major opera productions opening this month.

On April 10, the Los Angeles Philharmonic presents an hour-long concert event combining arias from Georg Friedrich Händel’s Giulio Cesare in Egitto featuring soprano Natalie Dessay and countertenor Christophe Dumaux, led by Emmanuelle Haïm. Dessay’s acclaimed performance of Giulio Cesare with Opéra National de Paris, also led by Haïm and utilizing materials from Bärenreiter’s Halle Händel Edition, is available now on DVD from Virgin Classics. Additional performances take place on April 11 and 12 at Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, CA.

Opera San Jose and Indiana University’s Opera Theater present productions of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, both using performance materials from Bärenreiter’s Neue Mozart-Ausgabe. Indiana University’s performances, a co-production with The Atlanta Opera, run from April 10-18 with direction by Helena Binder and led by David Effron. From April 18-May 3, George Cleve leads Opera San Jose in a production directed by Brad Dalton. Based on Mozart’s autograph manuscripts as well as all available source material, the Complete Neue Mozart-Ausgabe is universally regarded as an indispensible resource for authentic performance and study of Mozart’s works.
