Aventa Ensemble Performs Canadian Premiere of Pierre Boulez's Dérive II

Nov. 02, 2007

The Victoria, B.C. based chamber group Aventa Ensemble performs the Canadian premiere of Pierre Boulez's Dérive II on Sunday, November 4. Drawing on influences of Ligeti and Nancarrow, Dérive II revolves around the phenomenon of periodicity and the way we perceive. In this work Boulez overlays several differently structured periodic processes, which blithely intersect, concealing their periodicity rather than revealing it. The piece has been described by Anne Ozorio of Seen and Heard International as "surprisingly sensual music, exquisitely vivid and expressive with lyrical passages where snatches of near-melody flit past, tantalizingly elusive." Under the baton of Aventa artistic director Bill Linwood, the Canadian premiere of Dérive II takes place in the University of Victoria's Phillip T. Young Recital Hall on November 4 at 8PM.
