Aribert Reimann to Recieve the German Music Authors Award for a Lifetime of Achievement
Dec. 20, 2023
Aribert Reimann will receive the German Music Authors Award for a Lifetime of Achievement, having been recognized by a jury for his continued artistic brilliance, unique work, and his significant contribution to contemporary musical culture. He will accept the award in person at the award ceremony on February 8, 2024 in Berlin.
The jury notes:
"Aribert Reimann has uncompromisingly developed his own musical language, which reaches, shakes and touches listeners emotionally and intellectually with its combination of expressivity and clarity. The proximity to the human voice makes vocal music and musical theater a focus of his extensive work. Aribert Reimann confronts us with the conditions of human existence and its threats, thereby opening up a space for empathy. He has not only passed on his knowledge to students over decades as a teacher of contemporary song, but he also supports young composers with the Busoni Composition Prize, which he founded.”
The German Music Authors' Prize was launched by GEMA in 2009 to honor composers and lyricists in the German music industry for their outstanding achievements. Under the motto “Authors honor authors,” the award highlights musicians who are often not on stage. All award winners and nominees will be accepted as members of the Academy of German Music Authors (ADMA). The expert jury is elected annually by the ADMA. All previous nominees as well as the winners of the German Music Authors Prize are gathered in the Academy.
