Alek Nowak's Opera, Kontakt. Sonoromanza, Premiered at the Auksodrone Festival in Tychy, Poland

Oct. 19, 2025

The presence of Alek Nowak's operatic works at the Auksodrone Festival in Tychy, Poland is almost a permanent event, eagerly awaited each year by fans of the Silesian composer's work. His latest opera, Kontakt. Sonoromanza for soprano, tenor, harmonized voice and strings, takes listeners on a journey into the immeasurable space of the cosmos.

The action of the work illustrates the relationship and the titular contact between two characters who are as far apart as possible. The composer has given a special role in building the sound narrative to murmurs. The composer notes, "The work is permeated by noise. The kind you hear on the radio, the kind you hear in your head. Maybe the kind you hear in outer space. Yes, I know, there is no sound in a vacuum; there is no medium. But I think that something resonates in it. Something spreads like an echo. Imperceptible until it hits someone's head. Their ear. Through the ear to the heart."

Kontakt. Sonoromanza was premiered on October 4 by the AUKSO Chamber Orchestra of the City of Tychy, conducted by Marek Moś. The solo parts performed Joanna Freszel (soprano), Karol Kozłowski (tenor) and Paweł Sołtys (narrator, guitar). The event was also accompanied by the premiere of the latest album from the ANAKLASIS label, featuring ARCTIC FEVER. COMEDIA HARMONICA for six male voices and strings - an opera by Alek Nowak with lyrics by Marcin Wicha, which premiered at Auksodrone last year. The libretto has been inspired by the story of polar explorers, Ejnar Mikkelsen (1880–1971) and Iver Iversen (1884–1968).
