Alban Berg's 7 Early Songs Debuts in New Arrangement for Chamber Orchestra

On September 17, soprano Chiara Skerath joins the Zuger Sinfonietta for the world premiere of Alban Berg’s 7 Early Songs in a new arrangement for high voice and chamber orchestra by Paul Leonard Schäffer. Daniel Huppert conducts the orchestra at the Lorzensaal Cham in Switzerland.

Berg composed his 7 Early Songs between 1905 and 1908 while studying with Arnold Schönberg. In 1928, Berg published the songs anew in two versions, one for piano and the other with full orchestration. Schäffer based his 2014 arrangement for high voice and ensemble or chamber orchestra on Berg’s original piano version, following the path Berg had taken when first orchestrating the songs almost 90 ago.
