Akira Miyoshi Memorial Concert at Bunkyo Civic Hall

This month marks the first year anniversary of the death of Akira Miyoshi, who passed away on October 4, 2013. In memory of the composer, Tokyo’s Bunkyo Civic Hall presented a portrait concert on October 5, featuring a program of Miyoshi’s chamber works and performances by some of Miyoshi’s long-time collaborators. The works included Etude Concertante, for two marimbas, Rêve Colorié, for two clarinets, 5 Esquisses, for euphonium and marimba, and Perspective en Spirale, for solo clarinet. Also on the program were Miyoshi’s Kamisama eno Tegami (Letter to God), for children’s chorus and marimba, and Nora-Inu Doji for children’s chorus and two pianos, featuring the NHK Tokyo Children’s Chorus and the Youth Singers of the NHK Tokyo Children’s Chorus. The performances were led by conductors Kenji Otani and Noriko Kaneda. The concert also included performances by the Fujii Trio (percussionists Mutsuko, Haruka and Rika Fujii) on marimba, as well as Keiko Shoji on euphonium, clarinetists Megumi Nakamura and Kaoru Kondo, and pianists Takino Ishida and Mari Kariya.
