Yellow Barn Music Festival Features Norman, Harvey, Haas, Furrer & Widmann
Jun. 27, 2012

Yellow Barn, one of the country’s most distinguished chamber music festivals, features a significant line-up this season of works by Schott/EAM composers including Jonathan Harvey, Georg Friedrich Haas, Beat Furrer, Jörg Widmann, and Andrew Norman. Founded in 1969, Yellow Barn welcomes distinguished performers, young and established, to its grounds in the charming rural landscape of Putney, Vermont.
The festival’s July 19 concert features Georg Friedrich Haas’ Trio Ex Uno, a nod to Josquin des Prez for mixed sextet, and Beat Furrer’s stark and breathtaking Lotófagos I, for soprano and double bass. Two works by Jonathan Harvey receive performances at Yellow Barn, beginning on July 12 with Song Offerings for voice and octet led by soprano Susan Narucki, and on July 24, Mark Hill performs Harvey’s Ricercare Una Melodia for oboe and electronics. Jörg Widmann’s stunning Fieberphantasie for clarinet, piano, and string quartet is performed on July 20 followed by Andrew Norman’s vast and adventurous string trio, The Companion Guide to Rome, the piece for which the composer was nominated as a Finalist for the 2012 Pulitzer Prize, on July 21.
Additional Schott/EAM works receiving performances this season at Yellow Barn include Anton Webern’s SixBagatelles for string quartet on August 2, as well as Korngold’s String Quartet No. 3 and the Arnold Schönberg/Rainer Riehn chamber arrangement of Gustav Mahler’s DasLied von der Erde on August 4.
