World Premiere of Nikolai Badinski's <em>Violin Concerto No. 2</em>

Nikolai Badinski’s Violin Concerto No. 2 receives its long-overdue world premiere this month, nearly 40 years after its composition. The premiere takes place September 13 in Xiamen, China and is performed by violinist Zhi-Jong Wang and the Xiamen Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Fu Renchang. 

The concerto, conceived as a trilogy with the subtitle Mission of Life…, was composed around the time of the composer's Violin Concerto No. 3, and was lost in 1976 during Badinski’s escape from East to West Berlin. The manuscript was not rediscovered until many years after the German reunification of 1990.

Of the work, Badinsky states:

The philosophical idea underlying the composition is the relationship of a young individual to society. Finding ones place in the community is one of the central aims, and gives meaning to ones life. It is of great importance for a young person to find the connection between the “I” and the “We”, and to actively participate in community life in order to contribute to creating a better world… The whole concerto radiates youthful energy and emotional vitality.
