Petrushka Project Launches in New York, London, Beijing and Mainz

Petrushka Project, an unprecedented international live concert and commissioning initiative presented by the Strecker-Foundation, a leading music foundation based in Germany, landed in the US on June 19, 2012 at 8PM at The Juilliard School's Paul Hall featuring pianists Michael Brown and Christopher McKiggan. The recital marked the US leg of the international concert event with additional recitals in London (June 8), Beijing, (June 14), and a final performance in Mainz on July 14. Petrushka Project boasts the premieres of 70 new solo piano pieces by a wide range of composers worldwide. The Project affords a rare and unique opportunity for a wholesale international infusion of a huge variety of new piano music into the repertoire. Now, all 73 world premiere performances can be viewed at www.petrushka-project.com where interested customers and music fans can download sheet music and get further information and details on all the new compositions commissioned as a part of Petrushka Project.

Soloists Christopher McKiggan and Michael Brown will performed 21 of the new works on the program at Paul Hall. Mr. McKiggan premiered works by Robert Beaser, Hans-Jürgen von Bose, Gavin Bryars, Viktor Ekimovsky, Atsuhiko Gondai, Ryo Kunihiko, Thomas Larcher, Emile Naoumoff, Howard Shore, Peteris Vasks, Stewart Wallace and Harald Weiss. Mr. Brown performed works by Chaya Czernowin, Andrew Norman, Albena Petrovic-Vratchanska, Bernard Rands, Benjamin Schweitzer, Alvin Singleton, Viktor Suslin, Morton Subotnick, Yoji Yuasa and Jing Zhou.

Composers whose music was featured on the international recital programs include Tobias Picker, Joseph Schwantner, Gerald Barry, John Casken, Peter Eötvös, Kenneth Hesketh, Heinz Holliger, Olli Mustonen, Christian Jost, Rodion Shchedrin, Valentin Silvestrov and Jörg Widmann.
