Thomas Larcher's Duo for Violin and Cello Celebrates the Austrian Cultural Forum
Sep. 24, 2012

Thomas Larcher's new piece Duo for violin and cello celebrates the Austrian Cultural Forum’s 10th anniversary. Located in midtown Manhattan, the ACF has emerged as a leading cultural institution in New York and presents the world premiere of Larcher’s new work on October 15 featuring cellist Nicolas Altstaedt and violinist Nicolas Dautricourt. Larcher’s body of work continues to make waves in the US and Europe, as recently evidenced by the San Francisco Symphony’s premiere of his orchestral work Red and Green and a Wigmore Hall composer portrait in the last year alone. The London Times dubbed the composer “a musical talent of unbound sensitivity and distinction bound for 21st-century glory.” Much of Larcher’s music has been recorded by ECM, who have championed the Austrian composer since 2001 and released eight albums featuring his work.
The Austrian Cultural Forum's 10th anniversary celebration continues this month with another premiere by fellow-Austrian composer Manuela Kerer featuring the Hugo Wolf Quartet on October 25, and performances by the award-winning Artis-Quartet Vienna and pianist Janis Vakarelis at Carnegie Hall’s Zankel Hall, October 17.
