Szymanowski’s 6 Songs of the Fairy Princess Debut in New Completed Orchestration in Berlin

Karol Szymanowski composed his 6 Songs, Op. 31 in 1915 to accompany poems written by his sister Sophie. The songs are an evocative conjuring up of the colorful, fantastical world of the fairy-tale princess, and the composer would go on to create orchestral versions of three of the songs in 1933. Finnish conductor Sakari Oramo has now orchestrated the other three, completing the cycle. Maestro Oramo leads the Deutsches Symphonie Orchester Berlin in the world premiere of the complete cycle, featuring soprano Anu Komsi, on April 15 at the Philharmonie Berlin.
